Our History
The Information Management section was founded in 1998 with the LMAC. At first and In 1999 a local system was created to store some of the mine action data. Later on, In December 2001 an international system was adopted at the LMAC which is the Information Management System for Mine Action [IMSMA] v2.2. Currently and since July 2003 a newer version (3.0) of the IMSMA is being used.. Furthermore, Our plan is to use the latest launched version of the IMSMA having a totally new concept of design and database by the year 2009.
Our Goal
The Information Management (IM) Section’s main goal is to manage the Information Technology [IT] and maintain the database of the National Demining Program at the LMAC. The IM section coordinates also all the information, related to the Mine Action, to other sections of the LMAC, and, to any other third party if required.
Ongoing Task
1. Manage, support and maintain the IT infrastructure at LMAC, (hardware and software) in addition to the proper use and management of IMSMA database through:
a. . supervising and maintaining good status of the IT equipments at LMAC
b. . Updating and customizing IMSMA system
c. Analyzing and managing the Mine Action data (Impact Survey [IS], Technical Survey [TS], Mine Risk Education [MRE], Victim, Clearance, Tasks…)
d. Updating and producing maps
2. Developing and maintaining:
a. Policies, instructions and SOPs.
3. Providing continuous capacity building in terms of:
a. Training for GIS and for the use of its analytical tools and its geographical query options.
b. Increasing the use and dependency on the GIS regarding the mine action and data management.
c. Assistance in unifying geographic base map data from different resources into a single unified coherent database.
d. Advanced Training in collaboration with GICHD and UNDP.
Activities
1. Continuous coordination with GICHD regional coordinator for keeping up to date regarding IMSMA new versions and updates.
2. Coordinating with the ER for support in technical survey and unifying the mine action database Supervising and managing mine action centers located in Nabatieh Regional Mine Action Center (will be running by beginning of 2009)
3. Reporting to headquarters plans and information regarding the mine action activities
Ongoing Activities
1. Handling data entry on IMSMA related to mine action.

Benefits of the IMSMA
IMSMA is one of the greatest tools in assisting the Humanitarian Demining. It can be used to:
both store and display Field Reports (Dangerous Area, Survey, Incident, Accident ,etc) together with related Supporting Data (locations, contacts, provinces, towns, etc).
- Manage and analyse Data.
- generate Reports & produce Maps.
- Assign Task

|
Why IMSMA ?
- It shows the Magnitude of the Problem.
- Prioritize Tasks.
- Helps making a Strategic Plan for Mine Action or putting the set Plan on the right track for Future Operations.
